With the intense energy of a laser beam, 27-year-old Adedapo Micheal Sunday is one millennial who is focused on building and running a unicorn in the tech space.
That is why he has devoted his time, right from his days at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), to discovering and solving problems. Though he studied Accounting and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, he believes very strongly that young people in the age of IoT (Internet of Things) should learn and be proficient in skills that solve real problems.
In this interview, Adedapo who is the chief executive of Dleading Web Design Limited, who hails from Ondo, explains why he studied Information Technology (IT) while also pursuing his Accounting degree in the university.
Please tell us how you were able to plant your feet in two different disciplines in the university and excel in both, to the point of heading a fast-growing IT firm.
When I was studying for my Accounting degree at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), I was actively involved in leadership and departmental activities, which helped shape my organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Although my academic background is in Accounting, my exposure to technology and digital tools during my undergraduate years sparked a strong interest in the tech space, particularly in how technology can be used to solve business problems.
Paint a picture of your career trajectory and additional post-NYSC studies.
After graduating and completing my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), I made a deliberate decision to deepen my skills in the technology and digital services space. I pursued intensive self-driven and professional training in web design, WordPress development, SEO, UI/UX principles, and digital business systems.
My career trajectory has been one of continuous learning and practical execution. I started by building websites for small businesses and individuals, gradually expanding into more structured projects for schools, engineering firms, hotels, e-commerce brands, NGOs, and service-based companies within and outside Nigeria.
Along the way, I complemented my technical skills with knowledge in digital marketing, online visibility strategy, customer acquisition systems, and business automation, which today form a core part of the solutions we offer at Dleading Web Design Limited.
At what point did you decide to go into private enterprise and what was the motivation?
I decided to go into private enterprise after observing a recurring challenge among small and medium-sized businesses. Many had great products and services but lacked visibility, credibility, and structured online systems.
The motivation came from a strong desire to build solutions, not just services – to help businesses grow, scale, and compete effectively in an increasingly digital economy. I realized that relying solely on employment would limit my ability to create impact at scale, so entrepreneurship became a natural and purposeful path.
What informed the choice of the area of enterprise that you have embarked on? What unique opportunity or gap did you identify?
The choice to focus on web design, SEO, and digital presence solutions was informed by a clear market gap.
I noticed that many businesses either had no website at all, or had poorly designed websites that did not convert visitors into customers.
There was also a lack of professionally structured, affordable, and strategy-driven web solutions tailored to the Nigerian and African business environment.
