Two police officers on Tuesday lost their lives in Ilesa, Osun State, in an auto crash when they were killed by a driver, Emmanuel, who allegedly drove a Toyota Camry, with registration number Lagos MUS 313 ET, in a reckless manner.
The incident happened at the AKAD axis of Ilesa/Osogbo Road.
A police officer at Ayeso ‘A’ Divisional Police Station, Idowu Adedeji, who confirmed the incident, identified the victims as Sergeant Hayatu and Sergeant Moshood Adesanmi.
He said the deceased were attached to the highway patrol, where they served until they met their death.
Adedeji added that some men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and vehicle inspection officers escaped death narrowly.
He blamed the incident on violation of traffic rules by the driver who he said drove at full speed, lost control and hit the victims.
He disclosed that a traffic warden was also knocked down at Enu Odi Ijebu Junction a few days ago as a result of reckless driving.
The FRSC, Ilesa Unit commander, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, disclosed that the driver was identified as an alleged Internet scammer. The driver has been taken into custody and would be charged to court after investigations.
