An estate developer in Lagos State, Oluwatosin Olatujoye, has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’ administration for the recent decision to extend the amnesty programme for property owners and developers without planning approvals as it provides much-needed relief to those in the real estate sector.
According to Olatujoye, founder, Zylus Group International the extension which takes effect from August 1 to October 30 2024, is welcomed by many developers who see it as an opportunity to regularize their projects and avoid penal fees.
The announcement, which was made by Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, highlights the significant demand for this programme since its inception.
Olamide disclosed that it underscores the government’s understanding of the economic challenges faced by developers and its commitment to fostering a more organized and sustainable built environment. “For developers, the waiver of penal fees and additional discounts for prompt compliance are crucial incentives. These financial reliefs enable more developers to align their projects with planning regulations, ensuring safety and aesthetic appeal across Lagos State.
“ In a tough economic climate, every naira saved enhances the viability of projects, making this extension a significant support measure for the industry. Continuing he said, “ The amnesty programme not only alleviates financial strain but also encourages a more compliant and orderly development process. By adhering to regulatory standards, developers contribute to a safer and more visually pleasing urban landscape.
This initiative reflects the government’s proactive approach to addressing the needs of the real estate sector while promoting a well-planned, livable Lagos.”
Olatujoye urged fellow developers to seize this opportunity by securing the necessary permits and ensuring full compliance with state regulations.
He emphasized that this initiative is not merely about avoiding penalties but about contributing to the vision of a prosperous and orderly Lagos.
“ I believes that with collective effort, the real estate community can help build a city that is not only compliant with regulatory standards but also reflects the aspirations of its residents for a better living environment.
“ The extension of the amnesty program is a significant step towards a more organized and sustainable Lagos. It demonstrates the government’s empathy and proactive approach in addressing the real estate sector’s needs.
“ Developers are encouraged to embrace this opportunity, regularize their projects, and contribute to the city’s development while remaining law-abiding citizens dedicated to Lagos State’s progress. With collective effort, a more organized, livable, and sustainable Lagos is within reach.” Olatujoye concludes.
