Chief Imam of Awujoola Central Mosque, Saabo Oyo, Sheikh Hamzat Ahmad, has implored Muslims to fear Allah and be steadfast during the holy month of Ramadan.
He gave the admonition yesterday during the weekly Jummah service held at Awujoola Central Mosque at Saabo in Oyo town.
The cleric stated that there are verses in the Holy Quran that specify the dos and don’ts in the holy month.
Ahmad, who listed Quran Chapter Two, verse 183 to buttress his sermons, noted that the reasons for fasting during the month of Ramadan include the need to instil the fear of Allah in all Muslims, stay away from sins and abstain from habits that can make them aloof from Allah. He described Ramadan as the Fourth Pillar of Islam, beginning with the sighting of the moon after the completion of the month of Shabban.
“Fasting is compulsory for all Muslims that are mentally and physically healthy. The reward, according to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) begins with the selfless Ibadah (services) of the Muslims from Fajir till dawn.
“Part of the responsibilities of any Muslim during the holy month is to be generous to the poor. Allah is the most generous and He rewards those that are kind and generous, especially to the poor. It is only Allah that will reward those who observe Ramadan. We must use every part of our body for the worship of Allah,” he stated.
