As the rainy season intensifies with forecasts of heavier rainfall across the country, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has urged motorists to exercise greater caution and strictly observe all safety measures while driving.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhanuo, stated that driving during rainfall poses significant risks due to reduced visibility, slippery road surfaces, and other hazardous conditions that could lead to road traffic crashes if adequate precautions are not taken.
She advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
Asekhanuo advised drivers to thoroughly clean their vehicle windows and windshields, both inside and outside, and inspect essential safety components, including headlights, brake lights, tail lights, turn signals, windscreen wipers, and wiper blades, to ensure they are functioning properly.
The Sector Commander further emphasised that vehicle lights should be switched on whenever it rains, regardless of whether it is daytime or nighttime, to enhance visibility for all road users. She also urged motorists to reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, and always apply the “common sense speed limit” appropriate to prevailing weather and road conditions.

Corps Commander Asekhanuo noted that tyres are among the most critical safety components of any vehicle, as they are the only points of contact with the road. She, therefore, advised drivers to ensure that their tyres have adequate tread depth and proper traction to maintain effective grip on wet road surfaces.
To reinforce compliance with these safety measures, the Sector Commander directed all Unit Commanders across Anambra State to intensify traffic calming operations, sustain public enlightenment campaigns, and pay special attention to the condition of vehicle windscreen wipers during routine patrols and enforcement activities throughout the rainy season.
She reiterated the Corps’ commitment to reducing road traffic crashes and called on all road users to cooperate with the FRSC by driving responsibly and obeying all traffic regulations.
“Drive to Stay Alive,” she emphasised.
