The Ogun State government has awarded contracts for the construction and upgrading of 209.7km of rural roads across the nine federal constituencies of the state.
Additionally, three markets, each in the three senatorial districts, have been selected and awarded for intervention of the Ogun State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OG-RAAMP).
The project coordinator of RAAMP, Waheed Adejumo, stated this in Abeokuta, the state capital, while speaking with newsmen, shortly after inspecting some locations of the road projects.
He assured beneficiary communities that the roads would be delivered in accordance with the requirements of rural roads as mandated by the parties to the funding for the project.
He added that Ogun RAAMP, which is the baby of the state government and guaranteed by the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, had a tripod financing mechanism amongst the state government, World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD).
Adejumo, however, listed Olugbo-Oluga-Sipe-Ogbagba(Ogun Central); Isamuro-Okenugbo road in Ago-Iwoye area of Ijebu North (Ogun East) as well as the Agosasa-Idolorisa and Ijofin Bode Ase (Ogun West) among rural roads that had been awarded for upgrading, maintenance and rehabilitation.
“The days of the signing of these rural roads contracts are unique as well as they are important to us. They are the days the Ogun State Government through its leadership, Governor Dapo Abiodun, spread shared- development in rural areas to even communities that have written themselves off for reason of past abandonment,” Adejumo stated.
