Psychology of an uneducated mind

Ben Logo

It is the holy book  scripted by the All mighty God through inspiration  on certain writers that described the mind as “ Desperately wicked “Jeremiah 17:9 (The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?). In other words, Man is always thinking of how to be wicked, how to manufacture wickedness, how to inflict pain on fellow human beings.

So, the study of the mind is known as Psychology. Easily explained, psychology  is the science of a mental life of a particular being. No wonder Nigerian politicians have studied how porous an  an educated minds could be. Like chess players, they play with the mind of uneducated Nigerians for their personal gain on and to the disadvantage of the country the story recalled last week by my colleague, Mr. Achillus Uchegbu  in his column published on August 15, 24 titled EndBadGovernace: Gov. Sani’s kind of pro will book about the story of the governor who visited his colleague MICH  an instructive  yet, very  instructive. He had recalled  that Gen. Jeremiah Useni, as a national leader of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), had told a story of his invitation to a state in the northeast to commission projects executed by the governor. He narrated how during a ride about town with the governor he had seen a horde of kids of school age loitering on the roadside and asked the governor why the kids were not in school.

According to him, the governor said the kids would be useful during the election. In other words, leaders of states in the north deliberately keep kids out of school and away from formal education for political reasons. “ Painfully, millions of these uneducated youths ( Boys and Girls)  are deliberately denied basic education for selfish political reasons.

These are great minds whom our politicians had  refused education that would had  germinated them into fruitful and useful citizens that would eventually occupy important leadership positions in the country and around the world.

Denying and condemning them to the streets, it’s an ill wind that will blow no one Any good  I remembered Maitatsine  and recently Mohammed Yusuf Mohammed Yusuf also known as Ustaz Mohammed Yusuf, he was a  terrorist who clandenstily  founded the Islamist militant group Boko Haram in 2002. He was its leader until he was killed during the 2009 Boko Haram uprising. Before his demise, thousands of uneducated northern youths were  conscripted into his gang.

This vicious and unrepentant terrorist s have suddenly metamorphosed into another deadly group which the Muhammadu Buhari administration stylishly renamed  as “Bandits” by former minister for lnformation, Mr Lai Mohammed. These terrorist groups had tormented Nigerians, kidnapping and killing innocent villagers and along their trail is tears, blood

Tenure  elongation: An  ill wind

The  name Sunday Ehindero is being remembered in the annals of Nigeria Police history as the first lnspector General of police who kick started the sour point in the police when suprisingly as  a lawyer, he accepted a tenure elongation from President Olusegun Obasanjo  from 2005 to 2007, unfortunately, his tenure did not set any positive records for the police, yet he  accepted the extension . (Power is sweet and can be intoxicating)  That President  Obasanjo did not consult  widely before such action means that there was ethnic consideration instead of pure professionalism and the constitution.

By flagrantly to twisting  the law to approve  tenure extension Which does not exist in both the Police law nor in the Nigerian constitution. Simply explained, both the extension or either tenure elongation (both mean same thing) according to legal minds who view the Obasanjo action as  unconstitutional, are already shaking their heads with the announcement of the four years extension of the Inspector General of police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun for another four years. In other words, Mr Egbetokun would serve as the inspector General of police for five straight year.

This was also experienced when President Muhammadu Buhari extended the tenure of lGP  Ibrahim Idris; who served between 2016-2019 For the records, IGP Egbetokun served as security aid for 8 years  to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu When he was  governor of Lagos state for 2 terms.

So If the Constitution is been tempered with to favour the IGP it is simply based on  ethnicity and favouritism instead of professionalism the Nigerian constitution says  it is either  35 years of service or  60 years of age. this action according to legal minds is illegal and unconstitutional.

Definitely this will affect the police especially those who are  aspiring to greater heights  will be frustrated and will not make officers achieve their career goals  this is exactly what happened when Col Hameed  Ali (Former Governor of Kaduna state) was introduced into the senior hierarchy of the Nigerian customs as the comptroller General (CG) between 2015-2023. Cumulatively, Mr Ali spent 8 years as the Comptroller General of customs.

A position many describe as a misnomer and grossly unconstitutional. Yet the House of Assembly  at the time approved his appointment.  The years he spent frustrated many senior customs officer whose career were stalled by  President Muhammad Buhari action. This  is the same  unfortunate situation that would eventually befall many police officers most especially  those who are aspiring to higher office. The frustration can trigger off many negative actions in the police.
