PSC chair vows merit and equity in Police Academy admissions

From Molly Kilete, Abuja

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu, has led a delegation of the Commission’s management team to supervise the commencement of the 2024 post-JAMB admission processes into the Police Academy, Wudil, in Kano State.

The PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement, said Argungu, who also conducted a thorough tour of the Academy’s facilities, directed that any candidate caught attempting to compromise the admission process should be disqualified.

Argungu warned that candidates negotiating or offering money for consideration would be weeded out, emphasising that the exercise must be conducted on the principles of merit, fairness, and equity.

The PSC Chairman, who noted some complaints about the functionality of computers at some centres, directed that the systems be promptly repaired or replaced.

He commended the Commandant of the Academy, AIG Abubakar Sadiq, for his innovative initiatives, particularly in the current post-JAMB screening exercise. Argungu assured that the Commission would ensure the Academy operates with transparency and accountability as guiding principles.

DIG Argungu said, “The PSC team is in the Academy for the common good of the ongoing post-JAMB computer-based tests. We are here as stakeholders, and I have noticed that the exercise is proceeding smoothly. There is progress in the process, and the Commission will sustain it for the good of the institution.”

The Chairman inspected various facilities in the Academy, including the Moot Court, Clinic, Library, Lecture Theatre, and screening centres.

AIG Sadiq, the Academy’s Commandant, said the institution was fully prepared for the exercise and committed to ensuring its smooth execution. He informed the delegation that the computer-based test was transparent, with candidates receiving their computer-generated results immediately after submission. Sadiq added that candidates would know their scores before leaving the examination hall.
