The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Prof (Mrs) Nnenna Oti, has resigned her membership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Prof Oti’s resignation was contained in a letter dated June 22, and addressed to the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, FUTO branch.  The letter was received by Dr E.C. Chinakwe on June 23.

The Professor Soil Science, who was once an active member of the ASUU before her appointment as vice chancellor did not, however, give reasons for her sudden resignation.

However, a member of the union, Dr Stanley Okere confirmed her resignation, saying, “It is very true, but she didn’t say what was her reasons for resigning her membership.”

It would be recalled that Prof Oti was the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for Abia State governorship election, who stood her ground that the votes of Abia people must count during the declaration of results when there was a stalemate.
