Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, the Federal Character Commissioner from Oyo State, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strength and resilience following his stumble and fall during the Democracy Day parade.
The incident, which occurred as Tinubu was attempting to climb a parade vehicle, has sparked widespread discussion. In an opinion piece titled “Tinubu, Super Strong, He Fell and Rose Up Again,” Olowofela praised the president’s ability to overcome the setback.
Olowofela reflected on the significance of June 12 as Democracy Day, which marks the anniversary of the annulled 1993 presidential election, and Tinubu’s role as one of the principal actors in the fight for the revalidation of that election.
Quoting the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, Olowofela wrote, “The Greatness of a man is not in his ability not to fall but his ability to rise each time he fell.” He then described the recent incident, stating, “Year 2024 came and PBAT (President Bola Ahmed Tinubu) wanted to climb the parade vehicle and he stumbled and fell. He was back on his feet again. Every close observer of the Video would have seen that if he was not super strong that would have been the end of the parade.”
Olowofela lauded Tinubu’s physical, mental, and emotional strength, noting that his ability to fall and rise again demonstrated his physical strength, his address to the nation after the incident showed his mental strength, and his joking about the matter and reaffirming his commitment to democracy displayed his emotional strength.
The former commissioner expressed optimism that Tinubu, with his demonstrated strength, would be the “Architect of a stronger and better Nigeria” in the face of the daunting tasks ahead.
