The Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI) has announced a series of activities leading up to the nationwide launch of the program, culminating on May 29, 2024.
The initiative, under the leadership of Programme Director/Chief Executive Michael Oluwagbemi, aims to foster sustainable energy solutions and reduce carbon emissions in Nigeria. The pre-launch activities will focus on engaging stakeholders, showcasing gas supply projects, and facilitating the conversion and refuelling of infrastructure across the nation.
“These activities mark significant milestones in our journey towards achieving energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic prosperity for Nigeria,” the PCNGI statement read. “PCNGI is committed to fostering collaboration with all stakeholders as we pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.”
The statement also emphasizes that these programs fulfil President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to drive Nigeria’s energy transition in the transportation sector by leveraging CNG and enabling economic growth.
Here are the key activities planned:
- May 15: Southwest-1 stakeholders’ event in Lagos, incorporating Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states.
- May 15-22: Presidential (virtual) commissioning of critical Gas Supply Projects at NNPCL.
- May 16: Jets and Mikano Factory Inspection with the Labour Ministry, Labour Unions, and Media.
- May 17: South-South & South East stakeholder event at Port Harcourt, incorporating Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Abia, and Anambra.
- May 18: Launch of SS Affiliate Conversion & Refueling Center at Femadec Site in Port Harcourt, Inspection Tour of Total Energies Support Mother station for Auto CNG in Uyo.
- May 22: North Central-II & South West II Combined Engagement Session in Ilorin, incorporating Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kogi, & Kwara.
- May 24-31: Kojo Factory Inspection Tour in Enugu-Onitsha Site, receive cylinders and kits for the launch event, receive the first set of assembled tricycles for the launch event, receive the first set of buses from Kojo, Mikano, and Jets Companies.
- May 29: Press conference announcing the launch of the conversion incentive program in Abuja, commissioning of Ilorin refuelling and conversion centre by Chairman Governors Forum.
- May 30: Commissioning of Luojia Assembly Plant for CNG Tricycles on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
