The President of the Imo State Baptist Conference, Rev. Uzoma Uzoeshi, PhD, has been elected as the Chairman of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Imo State chapter.
The election, which was held on Saturday at Methodist Cathedral of Unity in Owerri, saw delegates from various denominations come together to choose their new leader.
The election process was marked by a spirit of unity and mutual respect among the delegates, representing a broad spectrum of Christian traditions in the state.
Rev. Uzoeshi’s rise to the position is seen as a momentous occasion, reflecting the trust and confidence the Christian community has in his leadership capabilities.
In his acceptance speech, Rev. Uzoeshi expressed profound gratitude to his fellow delegates and reiterated his commitment to working collaboratively to advance the mission of the CCN in Imo State. He emphasized the importance of unity among Christians, stating, “Our strength lies in our unity. Together, we can overcome challenges and work towards a society that reflects the values of love, peace, and justice.”
The Methodist Cathedral of Unity, a symbol of ecumenical fellowship, provided a fitting backdrop for this pivotal election. The event was attended by clergy and lay members from various Christian denominations, including Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist , A.M.E Zion, Savation Army and other denominations, all of whom expressed optimism about the future under Rev. Uzoeshi’s leadership.
Rev. Uzoeshi succeeds the outgoing Chairman, . The Rt Revd Godson Udochukwu Ukanwa, who served the CCN with distinction.
In his farewell remarks, Rt. Rev. Ukanwa congratulated Rev. Uzoeshi and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Christian Council towards greater achievements. He also called on all members to offer their unwavering support to the new Chairman.
The Christian Council of Nigeria, a body representing the collective interests of various Christian denominations, plays a crucial role in addressing social, political, and economic issues from a faith-based perspective. Under Rev. Uzoeshi’s chairmanship, it is expected that the CCN Imo State will continue to be a strong voice advocating for the moral and ethical values rooted in Christian teachings.
