POSER tasks Igbo on unity, greater political awareness

Socio-economic and political group, People of the South East Region (POSER) has urged Igbo to forge greater unity within the zone and with other ethnic groups.

It also tasked the region to be more politically conscious on developments, while urging the people to interrogate its leadership to be more accountable.

The calls were made by the group’s global leader, Obuesi Phillips, when he led some members including Chief Evaristus, Ozonweke, Mrs Eberechukwu Orhewere and Chukwuemeka Uzu, on a visit to the headquarters of The Sun Publication Limited, Ikeja, Lagos.

They were received by the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, Editor, Daily, Iheanacho Nwosu, Editor, Sunday, Mr. Chidi Nnadi and Saturday, Editor. Mr Tope Adeboboye.

Phillips said there was need for the South East to ensure there is greater unity in the zone to generate positive impact for genuine development. He also asked Igbo to raise the bar of political consciousness, just as he charged the people to rise to the challenge of insecurity by showing deep concern for the lives of neighbours.

“We are calling for greater unity among the Southeast rejoin. We are saying that there is urgent need to be more politically conscious and to interrogate our leadership for better accountability.

“We need to be witnessing, seeing tangible, visible results from our leaders, so there is need for more interrogation. We are disturbed by the state of insecurity, especially the ones occasioned by our Igbo People. Part of our objective is to create veritable platform for demanding performance and accountability from public office holders by POSER,’’ he said.

Mr Ukeh commended POSER on its agenda of ensuring that South East gets better both in unity and in its leadership recruitment.

“I commend your efforts as a group, particularly in trying to bridge the widening gap between people’s of the South East region and their political, traditional and economic leaders. Nigeria is at a critical time, so we need to interrogate leadership to ensure they perform and if they don’t, ensure they do not return. If we do it right, we will get the right people for service.’’
