Forty-four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Rivers State, have been punished by the management for different offences committed during the service year.
Their punishment was announced at the low-key passing-out ceremony of 2025 Batch B Stream I at Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Among the erring 44 corps members, nine made up of seven males and two females, will repeat a full service year; 35 members comprising of 21 males and 14 females are to serve extension of service.
In his address at the passing-out parade (POP), the Coordinator of NYSC Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe, charged those, who successfully completed the service year, to “continue to uphold the ideals of NYSC as they climb the ladder of life.”
He reminded them of the ideals of “patriotism, discipline, honesty, integrity, commitment and dedication to duty,” urging them to imbibe and uphold it in their “daily lives in order to build a successful life and career.”
Oleghe disclosed that the service year recorded zero death to the glory of God, adding that
two corps members, a male and female, won the State Honours award.
The state NYSC coordinator expressed deep appreciation for the tremendous support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and people of the state, in creating a conducive environment for the corps members to excel and appealed for its sustenance.
A total of 2,361 corps members successfully completed the service year. Out of the number, 941 were males, while 1,420 were females.
