Polls: Court reserves judgment in Atiku, PDP petition

From Godwin Tsa, Abuja

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has reserved judgment in the joint petition filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the election of President Bola Tinubu.

The Presiding Justice of the court, Justice Haruna Tsamani, announced this after lawyers to parties adopted their final written addresses and made the last submissions.

Justice Tsamani said judgment in the petition is reserved till a date to be communicated to parties.

The lawyer to the petitioner, Chris Uche, SAN, prayed to the court to allow the petition and grant his clients’ prayers.

Counsel to the respondents – Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN, for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun, SAN, for President Bola Tinubu and Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) – prayed the court to dismiss the petition for lacking in merit.

Mahmoud, Olanipekun and Fagbemi argued that the petitioners failed to prove their case with relevant evidence.
