Former Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has stressed that effective political alignment and strategic collaboration with broader power structures are essential for accelerating development and unlocking opportunities at the grassroots.

Speaking in Obingwa, Abia State, during a civic reception and empowerment programme organised by the lawmaker representing Obingwa West State Constituency, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, Nwosu described grassroots empowerment as a vital political tool for inclusive governance and sustainable development.

He said the empowerment initiative reflected purposeful leadership anchored on grassroots mobilisation, noting that political relevance and development outcomes are directly linked to a constituency’s ability to align with prevailing political structures.

According to him, governance loses its essence when political leadership fails to translate authority into tangible socio-economic benefits for the people.

Nwosu maintained that empowerment programmes such as the Obingwa intervention strengthen the social contract between leaders and constituents, deepen political participation and consolidate grassroots support.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed confidence that the intervention would enhance economic productivity, strengthen healthcare delivery and improve livelihoods, particularly among small business owners and vulnerable groups.

Items distributed included vehicles, motorcycles, dialysis machines, medical equipment, laptops, business support materials and cash grants, underscoring what speakers at the event described as a deliberate investment in human capital and political stability.

The event attracted key political actors, including former Abia State Governor and ambassador-designate, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu; former Deputy Governor, Dr Chris Akomas; Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa; as well as lawmakers and party stakeholders.

Traditional rulers, youth and women’s groups, and party faithful from across Obingwa West attended in large numbers, signalling growing grassroots support and political consolidation within the constituency.
