In line with strategic welfare mandate of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, to alleviate the burden of deceased officers families, Delta state Police Commissioner, CP Wale Abass, has disbursed over N110m to immediate relatives of men and officers who lost their lives in active service.
Speaking at presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries at Police Command in Asaba, CP Abass, expressed gratitude to IGP Egbetokun, for his kind gesture and disposition to wellbeing of his men and officers either still in active service or retired and even families left behind by deceased officers.
He noted that the gesture which was part of his boss “Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes” extended to Thirty-three (33) beneficiaries who are next of kin to the deceased officers in the state, would go a long way addressing some basic needs which could not be met as a result of the demise of their bread winners.
While acknowledging the deep sense of concern of the IGP, especially on the wellbeing of the officers and men in police force, CP Abass, pointed out that the cheques will help the families tremendously and serve as a reminder that even if their loved ones are no longer with them, the sacrifices they made can never be forgotten.
The Command’s PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, in his statement said the Commissioner of Police assured thatthe force would continue to improve on the welfare scheme for its personnel, in order to bring out the best in them while discharging their duties.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Force top hierarchy to sustain the initiative, especially for all deceased officers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the peace and progress of the country.
The CP admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the money given to them. One of the beneficiaries Isioma Francisca Ogabu who is the next of kin to the late Inspector Ogabu Ndidi speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries thanked the IGP for the gesture and promised to make judicious use of the money.
