The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a high-tech indoor cannabis farm inside a residential building in Apapa and arrested two suspects, including a Polish national.
The discovery was made at about 8:15 am
on Monday, November 2, following credible intelligence received by operatives of the command, according to a Tuesday statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi.
Acting on the information, operatives searched the premises where they uncovered a sophisticated indoor farming facility equipped for the cultivation, harvesting and processing of substances suspected to be cannabis.
Adebisi said two suspects were arrested in connection with the discovery.
The suspects are 49-year-old Polish national, Thomas Razvickas, and a 36-year-old Nigerian, James Chisome, both residents of the searched address.
Police said the suspects are currently in custody where they have made confessional statements and are providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, subsequently visited the scene to inspect the facility, assess the extent of the operation and receive briefing on the investigation.
He commended the operatives for vigilance and effective intelligence-led policing, and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug-related offences and ensuring Lagos does not serve as a safe haven for criminal activities.
He also appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police.
The suspects are expected to be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
