The Police Command in Niger yesterday, assured of its commitment to collaborate with the Ministry of Mineral Resources, in tackling illegal mining in the state.
Niger state Commissioner of Police (CP) Adamu Elleman, made this known during a visit by the Commissioner of Mineral Resources, Muhammed Danjuma and his entourage in Minna.
Danjuma said that the purpose of the visit was to commend tremendous efforts by the CP and his officers, in sanitising the state against criminal elements.
He said that the visit was also to share its renewed vision of transformation with the command, and to solicit for improved collaboration, particularly against illegal mining activities in the state.
“It is a known fact that some miscreants are hiding under the guise of mining to cause chaos and perpetrate crime in the community. The state is resolute to halt illegal mining which is associated with crime and other vices, and appeal for the revival of the illegal mining taskforce to aid in enforcing mining laws against offenders,” he said
He noted that this would go a long way in ensuring a more peaceful environment and also in achieving the vision of a new Niger of zero tolerance to illegal mining activities.
