The police in Edo have recovered an AK-47 rifle and magazine from a stolen Toyota Camry vehicle whose driver took to his heels while being searched by officers.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Edo, SP Moses Joel Yamu disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Yamu said, “Operatives of Edo State Police Command while on stop and search at Okpella, intercepted a Toyota Camry with reg no BDG 17 JK.
“During search, the driver took to his heels, raising suspicion. Further search led to the recovery of an Ak 47 rifle and a magazine carefully concealed in the engine compartment.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle named Umaru Usman was killed and dispossessed of the vehicle in Lagos and that the case was reported at the Alausa Police Station, Lagos.
“While efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect aka “Ahuwa/Soldier” real name not known is ongoing, the arrested accomplice who confessed to the act and that they were heading to Otukpo in Benue to dispose the vehicle is assisting the police with investigation.”
Yamu added that the arrested suspect and exhibit have been handed over to Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
