Anambra State Police command has arrested a suspect, Nwokpoku Emmanuel, 34, resident in Oduke-Obosi area of the state over alleged armed robbery and kidnapping
Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Tochukwu Ikenga said the victim was kidnapped and was released after a ransom of N15 million was collected by the gang.
“The Anambra state police command has arrested Nwokpoku Emmanuel, 34, who is in our custody, over a case of armed robbery and kidnapping.
“The police operatives also recovered from the suspect, the victim’s red coloured Mercedes Benz GLE 450”.
According to him, the abductors made away with his vehicle before it was tracked and recovered at MCC Junction, Onitsha.
He said that efforts were underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members, especially the leader known as Ebuka.
The PPRO said Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam, had directed that the gang leader and other members of the group be arrested to face the law.
He said that the CP assured the public that the command would continue to evolve operational strategies to improve safety in the state.
In another incident, the police command arrested a suspected cultist, Miracle Mwakalor, and recovered an AK47 rifle from him at Umubele village, Awka South Local Government Area.
“Police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu acting on credible information on December 6, 2024, by 2.30 pm arrested one Miracle Mwakalor,18 .
“He is from Umubele village, Awka-South LGA and one AK47 rifle and one magazine were recovered from him.
“The operatives burst the criminal gang in their den during an evil debrief on how they want to commit havoc in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area.
“Mwakalor was apprehended but his other gang members escaped”.
He said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to an apartment at Ubuofu Awka, where they hid the recovered rifle.
He said that the police were already on the trail of other fleeing gang members.
