The Oyo State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 10 suspects linked to a sophisticated impersonation and document forgery syndicate operating in Ibadan, in a major breakthrough against organised crime in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence received on April 9, 2026.
The intelligence revealed that a group of individuals specialised in forging official documents, stamps, and certificates belonging to both government and private institutions, with their operations based in the Ogunpa area of Ibadan.
Acting swiftly, the police launched a coordinated operation that led to the apprehension of the suspects identified as Mumini Akanbi (62), Quadri Muhammed (31), Salami Tajudeen (50), Oladipupo Hammed (45), Oladipupo Taiwo (40), Olorunosebi Kazeem (42), Fatai Akanni (54), Alamu Kazeem (60), Olalekan Afeez (42), and Alex Olanrewaju (64).
Further investigations saw law enforcement officers execute search warrants at the syndicate’s hideouts, where a cache of incriminating materials was recovered. Items seized include forged Police Character Certificates, counterfeit Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stamps, stamps from the Ogun State CID Eleweran Office, Iyaganku Area Command, various Divisional Police Offices, as well as stamps from Oyo State Government ministries, commercial banks, and several private organisations.
Police authorities disclosed that preliminary findings indicate the suspects operated as a well-organised criminal network engaged in the production and distribution of forged instruments for impersonation and fraudulent activities. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles and are currently assisting investigators with further information.
