A total of 501 suspects have been arrested, while 13 victims were rescued by the Oyo State police command.
The command also recovered 45 firearms, 55 vehicles, 18 motorcycles, and 127 rounds of ammunition in Oyo State within the past four months.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abiodun Odude, gave the information on Tuesday when he presented the executive summary of achievements of the state command from February till date at a meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee and senior police officers at Eleyele, Ibadan.
The meeting was presided over by Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 11, comprising Oyo, Osun and Ondo states, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, during which he made a case for a review of the Firearms Act, with a view to mopping up firearms in wrong hands in the country, ensure effective gun control, and punishment for offenders.
Odude, in the breakdown, stated that the arrest and the recovered items were done in 54 cases, adding that 24 cases of armed robbery were recorded and 184 robbery suspects were nabbed. Also, he said 33 firearms, 30 vehicles, four motorcycles and 110 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
He stated further that four cases of kidnapping were recorded and 14 suspects arrested, five victims were rescued, while one firearm and two vehicles were recovered from them.
Odude also revealed that six cases of murder were recorded, four persons arrested, two firearms and two motorcycles recovered from the murder suspects.
