The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five persons in connection with an attack on Okun Imedu, Imedu Town, Lekki LCDA, during the last Eid–el–Kabir (Ileya) celebration.
The suspects, allegedly accompanied by some soldiers, also chased away the caterers hired to cook for the celebration and stole the cow meant for the celebration.
The police have declared a manhunt for other members of the gang.
A senior police officer at Divisional Police Station, Akodo, where the case was reported, said one Saliu, who stormed the area, alongside others, including four people in military uniform, led the gang.
The police officer said the attackers were captured in a video that the police were working with to track the suspects and to hunt for the fleeing ones.
The arrested suspects include: Adenuga, Balogun and Sulaiman.
The police said the arrest followed a petition dated June 10, 2025, addressed to the Area Commander, Area ‘J’ Command, Elemoro, Ajah, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Akodo Divisional Police Station, Akodo, Ibeju Lekki, on behalf of the Oloja Olumade Royal Family of Imedu Town, Lekki LCDA.
The petition, titiled “Stealing, obstruction of the public peace, threat to life and attempted murder on the lives of members of the Olumade royal family of Imedu Town, Lekki LCDA, Lagos State, by Saliu, Adenuga, Oniga, Otedeko, other unknown persons, including four soldiers and 15 thugs on the Eid-el-Kabir (Ileya) festival at Imedu Town, Lekki LCDA, a Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal for police protection,” was signed by Barrister Adeyemi Adegbite of the AIEL Law office.
The petitioner stated that, “Our client informed us that they were at this ancient town on the 7th of June, 2025, the third day, of the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir (Ileya) Festival, where their caterers were at the open field of Okun Imedu, preparatory to celebrate the Ita Odun Ileya party, which would take place the next day.
“Suddenly and with impunity, at about 17:00 hours, an attack group came fully armed with guns and other dangerous weapons. It was supported by four soldiers and 15 thugs who began to threaten the caterers, poured water and extinguished the fire, threatened to kill everybody within sight and was chasing others who were approaching for the party.
“The assailants came in a Land Rover vehicle and carted away the cow about to be slaughtered for the occasion. On the 8th of June, 2025, in the morning, they reinforced and mobilized some cult members threatening thunder and brimstone with further steps to take the second cow bought in place of the first one.
“And it was through the effort of the men of Akodo Police Station who provided overnight security that they were unable to penetrate and attack our client’s members.
“Instantly, without hesitation, the matter was reported to the Divisional Police Station, Akodo, and was investigated by the Crime Officer, Supo Segun Samuel. Our client also informed the monarch within the immediate jurisdiction, who is the Onibeju of Ibeju. When the assailants got wind of the steps taken by our client by informing these authorities, they were confused about the next step to take.
“They then took the cow to the nearby Ise Police Post but not until they had injected the cow with substance suspected to be poisonous with the sole intention of endangering the lives of persons at the occasion.
“They even broke one of the legs of the cow. The case was reported to the police by a representative of the Oloja Olumade Royal Family, Pastor Oluwaseyi Ogunde, who was amongst those who witnessed the incident firsthand. (Our client claims to have both the pictorial as well as video evidence of the occurrence.)
“Some of the suspects have since been arrested by the Akodo Police Station. And the value of the cow, which was stolen is N3,000,000.00. Our client’s humble demand is for a police discreet investigation and that the suspects be prosecuted in order to stem the tide of continuous violence meted out to our client in respect of the Obaship tussle in Imedu Town.”
While urging the Area Commander to give urgent attention to their petition in order to ensure that the end of justice is served judiciously, he said, “They remain Solicitors to the Oloja Olumade Royal Family of Imedu Town, Lekki LCDA, Lagos State, on whose unflinching instructions we forward this present to your very good offices.”
Meanwhile, the Oba-elect, Prince Aliu Adeyemi Shitu Olumade, has expressed displeasure over the development, but assured residents that justice shall prevail at the end of the day.
