The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men over the alleged gruesome murder and robbery of a family at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward all from Oloba Village, were arrested following intelligence received by the police on October 2 concerning the September 22 attack.
The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly stormed the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children at about 7:00 p.m., armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
According to the police, the attackers allegedly carted away ₦200,000, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
The police further alleged that Akinbami shot the husband during the attack, while Ojo and Edward assaulted the wife, hitting her on the head.
The statement said the violence escalated as two of the children were allegedly tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river, while the other members of the family were also allegedly killed and their bodies dumped in the river.
Detectives subsequently visited the scene and recovered the family’s Boxer motorcycle, a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
The command said all three suspects confessed during interrogation to their alleged involvement in the crime.
The remains of the wife have been recovered, while the police said efforts are continuing to recover the remains of the four other victims allegedly dumped in the river.
The suspects and case file will be transferred to the SCID, Iyaganku, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident, stressing that everyone found culpable must face justice.
The police urged residents with relevant information to assist investigators as the search and investigation continue.
