The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects, including 24 alleged kidnappers and one suspected armed robber, and recovered three firearms as well as eight rounds of ammunition in a series of coordinated operations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters, Lafia, yesterday.

According to him, the arrests and recoveries were the result of sustained intelligence gathering and the command’s renewed commitment to tackling crime and criminality in the state.

Mohammed stated that on October 14, this year, operatives of the ‘E’ Division, Shabu, arrested three suspects—Asabe Isah, Isah Umar, and Emmanuel Polycarp, for the abduction of a two-year-old boy, Godwin Abeson, from Sabon Pegi, Shabu.

“The suspects conspired among themselves, abducted the victim, and demanded a ransom of N15million. The child was rescued unhurt on October 16, 2025, and reunited with his family,” he stated.

Preliminary investigations, he said, indicated that the prime suspect, Asabe Isah, conspired with her husband to abduct the child before handing him over to a third accomplice, who made ransom calls to the family. In a related development, the police have also arrested Mohammed Giginya, a suspected armed robber and kidnapper, following an attack along the Akiri Feeder Road in Azara Development Area of Awe Local Government Area on October 5.

Mohammed stated that items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and one live round of 7.62mm ammunition.

“The victims have been taken to the hospital for treatment, and efforts are on-going to apprehend other fleeing suspects,” he stated.

CP Mohammed also disclosed the arrest of six suspected kidnappers—Iliyasu Umar, Ibrahim Adamu, Umar Faruq, Ali Sani, Muhammadu Ibrahim, and Nuhu Mohammed, who were allegedly involved in the abduction of one Othman along the Lafia–Keana Road.

The suspects were arrested on September 28, 2025, after demanding a ransom of ₦10million.
