Operatives of the Department of Operations, Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol teams of the Delta State Police Command, have arrested 23 suspected drugs peddlers and recovered large quantities of illicit substances.

The suspects were apprehended in two separate police operations, following a major raid on criminal hideouts around the state.

Confirming the arrest, Delta State Police Public Relation Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement, yesterday, said that the arrest followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations who led the police squad on a raid to identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and brothels within the Okpanam axis and Asaba metropolis on May 22.

He said that the operation targeted locations around Hausa Market, Okpanam, where 22 male suspects were arrested.

Edafe said that exhibits recovered include 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for profiling and further investigation. Suspects found culpable will be prosecuted”, he added.

He said that during the operation, police arrested 23 suspects, recovered a stolen HOWO trailer truck, and seized large quantities of suspected illicit drugs in separate operations.

His words: “Following a petition alleging the snatching of a trailer truck, stealing, and conspiracy, operatives of Operation Safe Delta tracked a stolen HOWO trailer truck with registration number KK/192 XA at Ifite-Awka, Anambra State. The vehicle has been recovered and towed to Asaba, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

In a related development, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri, intercepted a tricycle during a stop-and-search operation along Esisi Road, Warri.

The police image-maker said, “A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 13 nylon bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp. A 57-year-old female suspect was arrested in connection with the exhibit. Investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.”

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, in his comment, urged residents to continue supporting the Police with credible information, assuring that all suspects found culpable will be brought to justice. He urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the Command Control Room.
