The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to rename the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, as TY Danjuma Federal University, Wukari, in honour of former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd).
The House also mandated its Committee on University Education to engage with relevant stakeholders and facilitate the legislative measures required to give effect to the proposed renaming.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Gaza Gbewfi, member representing Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State; Mark Useni and Ayuba Dampar, representing Takum/Donga/Ussa Federal Constituency and Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency of Taraba State respectively.
Gbewfi, in the motion, noted General Danjuma’s contribution to the country through the military, public service and philanthropy. He argued that renaming the university after him would honour his contributions to national development.
