Police Affairs ministry goes paperless with Galaxy Backbone ECM

From Molly Kilete, Abuja

The Ministry of Police Affairs has launched the Galaxy Backbone Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform to ease the transition from traditional paperwork to a modern, secure and streamlined digital environment, marking a significant step in the ministry’s digital transformation journey and move towards going paperless.

The initiative, according to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Ogbonnaya Anuma Nnia, is in line with the directive of the Head of Service to digitise the entire federal civil service system by 31 December 2025, replacing traditional paperwork with a modern, secure digital environment and enhancing governance, transparency and operational efficiency.

In his address during the launch, Nnia described the ECM as a significant step towards the ministry’s collective journey towards digital transformation, improved governance and strengthened institutional efficiency.

He said the platform features a comprehensive interface with tools including Gov CMS for workflow management, Gov Email for correspondence, Gov Conference for meetings and Gov Drive for file storage.

While noting the launch as a major milestone and a call for continued cooperation and training to ensure full utilisation and success, Nnia said: “This is not merely articulating technological tools but the beginning of a new culture, one engineered by accountability, transparency, institutional memory and operational excellence.”

He commended the ECM’s ability to manage official records, track workflow processes, safeguard sensitive documents and enhance service delivery across all departments.

He also commended the Galaxy Backbone team for their technical partnership, continuous support and commitment to ensuring a seamless deployment of the ECM across the ministry, and urged staff of the ministry to embrace the development wholeheartedly, assuring that the ministry will continue to provide capacity building and user support in this new phase.

“The world we live in is driven by information technology and speed. Technology only delivers its full value when fully utilized,” he concluded.

Also speaking, Mr Akintayo Bamidele, Group Head, Research and Digital Development of Galaxy Backbone, stated that the department and the ministry at large are making history with this shift.

He described the development as a significant change in how government service operations are conducted and how public service is delivered.

The ECM deployment is a work in progress across all federal ministries, as all hands are on deck to ensure a seamless transition into the digitisation of work processes.
