Khalid Imam
Only the fleshy body of Bukar
Resides in the city of Abuja
The unyielding soul of Bukar Usman
I bear witness with my ink
Lives in Biu, his birthplace!
Khalid, a living witness l was
My mentor is directly loved at home.
Biu, the city on the hilltop
Is home to iconic Bukar
Sure, the corn seed sprouting
Takes great pride from its root
Even if a tree spreads its canopy to the neighbors
Yet, her root is the real sources
Of graceful life and nutrition.
Biu is an awesome city l visited –
The birthplace of Bukar, my mentor
A true son of the soil he is
Who truly loves his kins
A date with palms outside home he is not
A river of philanthropy
Supporting many he remains.
It is very true in Biu
Bukar Usman is an elephant
And a functional village well
Everyone drinks from its fresh waters
Biu people intimated
They hold Bukar in high esteem
A tower of strength he is to them.
The elderly and the royalty
The erudite scholars and the youths
Women, men, and children alike
They all hail their admirable son
Bukar, the true son of the soil
Who hoists the flag of Biu
Above the sea and mountains.
The authentic history of Biu Emirate
Bukar Usman, the wordsmith
He painstakingly wrote
With exceptional brilliance
For the world to read
Bukar is a patriotic son
All respected and cherished.
A beacon of light to dozen women
A symbol of hope to plentiful men
Dr. Bukar Usman, the erudite
Drives joy helping the vulnerables
Many boreholes he constructed
To quench thirst in Biu city
Home he forgets not.
Sacks of good seeds
Bags of thousand fertilizers
Bukar freely distributed to farmers
A pillar of support to farming he is
In Bukar farmers have a river
His blissfulness is for riches to spread
All over Biu and neighborhoods.
Modern groundnut oil refining:
Its knowledge and skills
He initiated and encouraged
Implanting its first refinery in Biu
For farmers to transform
Dr. Bukar did all this and more
Out of deep love and patriotism.
Khalid Imam wrote the poem after his recent, first ever visit to Biu.
