Plateau workers suspend strike action, payment of LG salaries centralized

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Trade Union side, Plateau State Council has suspended the ongoing strike action embarked upon in May this year with effect from 14 July, 2023.

Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Titus L. Malau and the Secretary, Comrade Timothy S. Gopep on Friday said the Technical Committee on salary structure will resume sitting to conclude the salary structure immediately after resumption of work by Monday 17 July,2023.

Malau said, “The indefinite strike action declared by the union is here by suspended with effect from 14 July 2023 and workers of both state and local government are directed to resume on Monday 17 July, 2023. No worker who participated in the strike action shall be victimized.”

They maintained that the state government has paid the balance of salaries for the month of February 2023 and also issued circular directing all Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) to implement all promotions with immediate effect.

“The government has concluded working on consolidated Salary table for State civil servants, and same has been signed by both parties.

“The Government has prepared salary spreadsheet for the month of March 2023 capturing arrears of Annual Increment for January and February 2022, same has been presented to the Unions.

“payment of salary of newly employed civil servants shall be carried out upon conclusion of the review of their employment by the committee set-up for that purpose.”

Among other decision reached with the 17 Council Chairmen by the Union is that payment of workers will henceforth be centralized to assist weaker local government Council in the State. while personnel Audit of the Local Government will be carried out after resumption.

“Payment of salaries shall be centralized in the spirit of brotherhood to assist the weaker local governments. Joint Personnel Audit of the Local Governments shall be conducted within six (6) weeks commencing one (1) week after resumption of work.”

The Union said it has observed some challenges with the payment of March 2023 salaries which the Union will follow up to ensure it is resolved.
