Secretariats remain seal till further notice –CP

Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has urged citizens to remain calm and resist any form of provocation, saying government is taking lawful steps to return the local government system to sound footing for massive development at the grassroots
He spoke against the backdrop of the actions of sacked local government chairmen in the state.
Mutfwang, in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, yesterday, in Jos, urged the people of the state not to indulge in any unlawful activity that would undermine peace and security.
“My office has been receiving reports of breaking of local government secretariats and we felt this is the right time for us to step in to avoid further escalation of the happenings and to ensure peaceful co-existence irrespective of party divide in the state.
“The inspector general of police directed that all the 17 council secretariats be seal off for now. And this action of the police is not targeted at anybody, group of persons or party. The essence of this is to avoid breakdown of law and order in Plateau State more so now that we have various degrees of security challenges in the state,” he said.
The governor assured Plateau citizens that security of lives and property remain topmost priority of his administration as it is the foundation that gives birth to all forms of growth and development.
He said the task of building a united and secure Plateau was a collective one and that the government is making frantic efforts to address current happenings at the local government level.
Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, at a press conference, yesterday, said the 17 secretariats of the councils will remain close till further notice.
He said men of the command have since been deployed to the 17 local government secretariats in the state to ensure no body gains entrance into the secretariats until normalcy is restored.
