The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has commended President Bola Tinubu for donating his salary to the Armed Forces, while also urging greater transparency and expanded support for Nigerians facing economic hardship.
In a statement by its National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare, the PFN described the President’s gesture as “noble and highly commendable,” noting that it reflects recognition of the sacrifices made by military personnel.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, this gesture is noble and highly commendable.
“In view of the immense sacrifices made daily by members of the Armed Forces, many of whom pay the ultimate price for the safety and security of our nation, such an act of generosity deserves recognition and appreciation from all Nigerians.”
However, the Christian body called on the President to go further by including his allowances in the donation and making the total contribution public.
“While we sincerely applaud this gesture, the fellowship respectfully encourages the President to take an additional step by considering the donation of his allowances alongside his salary.
“In the interest of transparency and public accountability, it is important that the total value of the donation be clearly stated,” it stated.

Beyond the donation, the PFN expressed concern over worsening economic conditions in the country, linking the hardship partly to global tensions and rising fuel costs.
“Nigerians have continued to grapple with hardship following the removal of fuel subsidy, and the situation has been further exacerbated by developments in the Middle East,” the statement noted.
“There is an urgent need for deliberate and compassionate intervention by the President.”
The group urged the Federal Government to introduce a comprehensive social safety net to ease the burden on citizens, suggesting that such measures would be a meaningful extension of the President’s birthday gesture.
“It would be a meaningful and impactful gesture if, on the occasion of his birthday, the President extends this act of generosity to the entire nation by announcing concrete measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of Nigerians,” PFN stated.
The Fellowship also condemned recent attacks in parts of the country, specifically in Jos and Kaduna state, calling on the authorities to act decisively.
“Government must do everything possible to end these killings and ensure the security of all citizens,” the statement added.
The PFN congratulated President Tinubu and wished him “continued wisdom, strength, and success in the service of our nation.”
