The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said no politician can win the 2027 elections in the state through boasts, intimidation and sugar-coated lies.
The party was reacting to comments by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at a civic reception organized by the City Boy Movement in Omagwa at the weekend, where he boasted that Rotimi Amaechi, ADC Vice Presidential candidate, would be defeated by 12 noon on election-day.
State Chairman of ADC, Chukwudi Dimkpa, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, said elections are determined by voters and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), not political strongmen.
“Elections are not won by boasts or intimidation. Rivers people will vote, the votes will be counted, and INEC, not Wike will declare the winner,” he said.
Dimkpa condemned the timing of the reception as “political rascality taken too far”, noting it held the same day Amaechi was burying his mother, Dame Ezinne Amaechi*, in Ubima.
“Wike and the Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Charles Wobodo, obstructed the road and turned the occasion into a platform for attacking a mourning man. It was insensitive and embarrassing,” he stated.
“There is a time for politics and a time for humanity. Nobody owns the people or their votes, and nobody can declare results by 12 noon,” Dimkpa added.
He urged Rivers people not to be intimidated, but to elect a credible leader in 2027.
