From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has expressed profound sympathy to the traders of the Kano Singer Market over the recent fire outbreak that destroyed millions of Naira worth of goods and facilities at the market.
During a sympathy visit, Peter Obi, flanked by his allies and supporters went round the famous market where he personally interacted with the traders and shared in their grief.
Sympathizing with the traders, Obi who recently defected to the ADC, stressed that , “Let start by expressing my sincere sympathy with the leadership of this facility over their loss. We are here physically to see what happened at the Singer Market.
“This is a huge loss, you can see the building and everything and their wares, this is a huge loss to the owners of the facility, huge loss to Kano State and huge loss to Nigerians in general” Obi stated.
He lamented that a lot of Nigerians were directly and indirectly employed by the market noting that the negative impact of the fire outbreak went beyond the affected facilities or the immediate traders.
“That is why we are here to show our solidarity. That is why I left Lagos to personally come down and show my own support at this time of loss – no matter how small is the support” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the traders, the Chairman of the Kano Singer Market Association, Junaidu Mohammed appreciated the visitor and his entourage.
He noted that, “We really appreciate your kindness and effort and support.. for you to come to Kano and Singer market to show your support to us the traders of this market’ . He prayed for their safe return to his bases.
Daily Sun reports that hundreds of millions worth of goods were destroyed after a fire incident occurred at the famous market about a week ago.
