A group, Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO), who described themselves as stakeholders in the Obidient Movement and steadfast supporters of the Labour Party, with an unwavering dedication to the vision of rebuilding Nigeria with Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed, has written to the National Chairman, Julius Abure, seeking an all-inclusive participation in the planned national congress of the party.
In the letter signed on behalf of the conveners by the National Coordinator, CPO, Joshua Ebighiebi and Chairman CPO LP Convention Liaison, Pamson Dagyat, the group asked the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to to ensure the unimpeded inclusion
of all willing and committed members in the
upcoming congresses.
The letter was also signed by representatives of Take Back Naija (TBN), Ezeokoli Blessing Chimezie; Beebahs Foundation for Obi-Datti, Dr. Habiba Adamu; Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN),Rev. Haruna Maidoki; Women for Peter Obi (WPO), Ebere Obiesie; Like Minds for Peter Obi (LMPO), Nwakauche Ekene; Nigeria Needs Peter Obi (NNPO), Hon. Justin Kingland; Upnorth Ambassadors for Peter Obi, Chigozie Ifeanyichukwu Alex and Arewa Network for Peter Obi, Sani Saeed.
The group recommended that in order to achieve this goal, the congresses should commence from the grassroots level, starting
with the wards, progressing to the Local
Government Areas (LGAs), and culminating
at the state level.
The letter was also copied to Presidential Candidate of the Party, Peter Obi, Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti and chairmen of the National Assembly caucuses of Labour Party.
It reads, “The undersigned, Coalition of Peter Obi (CPO), a stakeholder in the Obidient
movement, stands as steadfast supporters of
the Labour Party. Our unwavering dedication
to the vision of rebuilding Nigeria with Peter
Obi and Datti Ahmed remains resolute.
“Following the online meeting of the Obidient
on March 21, 2024, we respectfully present
this appeal to you, the National Chairman of
We strongly urge the Party National Working
Committee to ensure the unimpeded inclusion
of all willing and committed members in the
upcoming congresses.
“To achieve this goal, we recommend that the congresses commence from the grassroots level, starting with the wards, progressing to the Local Government Areas (LGAs), and culminating at the state level.
“We believe that this strategic approach will empower party members to actively participate in the selection of their representatives for the National Convention, ensuring a collective and inclusive approach
to decision-making processes.
“We also recommend that Screening and
Electoral Committees be set up with clear
mandates, and their details made public. This
approach will enhance transparency and
accountability, which are essential for the
credibility of the electoral process.
“Emphasizing democratic values and
transparency, we advocate for a platform
where every member can voice their opinions
and contribute to shaping the party’s future.
Inclusivity and grassroots engagement are
vital for the party’s strength and progress
towards shared goals.
The group expressed their belief that if these suggestions were accepted, it would benefit the party and strengthen its internal democracy and advance its goals.
