Coach Jose Peseiro has declared that the Super Eagles will fight to win a fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire even though it will not be easy.

Nigeria has won the continental tournament thrice with the last being 10 years ago in South Africa.

“We will fight to win the AFCON even though it won’t be easy,” he said in an interview with the NFF TV.

“Our group is not easy because we are up against Cote d’Ivoire, who have a good squad and are playing at home.  “Equatorial Guinea reached quarterfinal at the last AFCON, better than Nigeria, while Guinea Bissau beat us at home in the qualifiers.

“We have to be at our best in our trainings and in our matches.

“The fans should stick with us because we will do the maximum for Nigeria.”

Peseiro also gave an insight to his choice of his final squad to the tournament.

He said he took into consideration the players’ current form as well as how they fared in the national team.

“It was not easy to choose the 25 players for the final squad and hope they play for us,” he said, while explaining that over 70 players were monitored over a period of time in this respect.

Nigeria will open a training camp Tuesday in Abu Dhabi before they fly out to Cote d’Ivoire.
