Nigerian content creator, Peller, has lashed out at rapper Ycee after the musician criticised what he described as the growing “Peller culture” on social media, accusing the rapper of dragging his name into a broader conversation on declining standards.
The war of words began after Ycee, during an appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, condemned the type of content dominating Nigeria’s digital space. The rapper argued that intelligence and academic excellence were gradually losing relevance, citing Peller as an example while lamenting what he termed “Peller culture.”
Ycee questioned the educational value of such content, insisting that the country’s entertainment landscape was increasingly rewarding sensationalism over substance.
Peller, however, did not take kindly to the comments. In a video shared on his social media platforms, the TikTok star described Ycee as a “very anyhow OG,” accusing the rapper of seeking attention by mentioning his name.
“The same olodo uprising wey una dey use promote una noise, very anyhow OG. If you’re an elderly person, respect yourself. Must you mention names? You yourself are an illiterate because, as an elderly man with sense, you should be able to make your point without mentioning anyone’s name.”
The exchange has since ignited widespread reactions across social media, with users divided over Ycee’s criticism of online content culture and Peller’s fiery response. While some backed the rapper’s concerns about the direction of digital entertainment, others argued that Peller should not be singled out for creating content embraced by millions of Nigerians.
