The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has lauded the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for swiftly addressing and resolving the persistent backlog in driver’s licence production across Nigeria.

In a statement by the Director-General of PEBEC, Zahrah Audu, she said the council recognised the FRSC’s prompt response following a formal communication from PEBEC on 7 November 2025. The FRSC quickly launched an internal review that pinpointed delays within the national driver’s licence production system.

“We commend the Federal Road Safety Corps for their rapid and effective actions to restore system functionality and significantly increase their daily licence production capacity to 15,000 units,” Audu said. “The introduction of the Contactless Biometric Capture System is a major innovation that will enable permanent driver’s licences to be issued within 48 hours, eliminating the reliance on temporary licences.”

This achievement marks a key milestone in improving Nigeria’s public service delivery by enhancing regulatory efficiency, transparency and a better citizen experience – core goals of PEBEC’s mandate.

The council also urged all applicants to collect their licences promptly, noting that over 294,000 unclaimed licences remain at FRSC centres across the country. “Collecting these licences will help reduce congestion at service centres and support the Corps’ continued efforts to enhance operational efficiency,” Audu added.

PEBEC reassured stakeholders of its ongoing commitment to working closely with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to create a seamless and business-friendly environment nationwide.
