Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has met with allies, who coordinated his presidential aspirant campaign prior to the opposition party’s national convention.
The meeting held at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, in Abuja, was attended by Governors Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu, Seye Makinde of Benue, Enugu, Abia and Oyo states respectively, former minister of information, Jerry Gana, former governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke, former Ondo State governor, Segun Mimiko, former PDP deputy national chairman( North) Nazif Suleiman and some serving and former members of the House of Representatives among others.
Though the details of yesterday’s meeting was not clear as at the time of filing this report, Daily Sun gathered that it is not unconnected with the crisis arising from the nomination of presidential and vice presidential candidates.
A source close to one of the participants, the meeting “only reviewed what transpired during the primary and what our next line of action should be since no one has deemed it fit to sit down with our principal and discuss like genuine party men should.”
Gana, who was the North Central Co-ordinator of the campaign, told journalists, at the end of the meeting that the parley was the first time members of the team would be holding after the primary. He said Nigerians would be briefed as events unfolds.
“We are united as one. We know that developments will unfold and when they do, we shall brief Nigerians.”
The PDP has been enmeshed in crisis in the aftermath of the nomination of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as vice presidential candidate. Supporters of Wike, who had expressed misgivings over Okowa’s nomination, are of the view that Wike, who came second at the PDP presidential primary, ought to have been chosen as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.
