The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has declared that the incumbency factor would not save the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, reacting to recent comments by Governor Senator Douye Diri, who mocked opposition parties that they would soon learn the game of incumbency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The publicity secretary of the PDP in Bayelsa State, Hon Ikaebimo Mark, in a statement issued in Yenagoa, noted that while Diri was entitled to his political opinion, the PDP wished to remind him that no power was greater than the collective will of the people.

According to him, political history across Nigeria had repeatedly shown that incumbency without genuine grassroots support could not withstand the determination of a people united for change, justice and purposeful leadership, maintaining that the PDP remained deeply rooted in the hearts of Bayelsans willing to entrust it with power again.

“The PDP remains deeply rooted in the hearts of Bayelsans. Bayelsa is PDP, and PDP is Bayelsa. The bond between the party and the people was built over years of shared struggles, development, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to the progress of the Ijaw nation and the state as a whole,” he said.

Mark urged Bayelsans not to be intimidated by statements designed to create an impression of political invincibility, insisting that democracy belonged to the people and not to incumbents, and expressing confidence that the people of Bayelsa State would continue to stand with the party that had consistently identified with their aspirations and protected their interests.
