Some support groups of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday, drummed support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Nyesom Wike, to be declared as national chairman of the party.
The groups are Coalition of Northern Youth Groups, Nigeria Democratic Defense Project, Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance, and Coalition of FCT Abuja.
Spokesperson, United Support Groups, Onwe Ogezi, on behalf of others, in a statement, expressed confidence in the leadership of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who was validated by the National Executive Committee (NEC) until September 2024.
He said, “We are gathered here in a historic affirmation of our steadfast belief in the leadership of the incomparable Nyesom Wike
“His strategic foresight and dedication to the core values of our party resonate with us profoundly, fostering a unity that is both rare and vital in today’s political climate.
“The unwavering faith of our party members in Nyesom Wike’s vision is a testament to his unassailable dedication to the PDP. Since 1999, Wike has remained a loyal party man, never wavering in his commitment, unlike others who have intermittently departed our ranks.”
He called on the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to give way for younger politicians to govern the country, citing what he called “his frequent party-switching and absenteeism from the country’s political landscape.”
“This rally is more than just a show of numbers; it is the dawn of a reinvigorated PDP, ready to embrace a future of governance anchored on accountability, inclusion, and political integrity,” he said.
