The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will proceed with its planned state congresses and national convention despite an ongoing lawsuit from an opposition faction within the party.
Speaking on Politics Today on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, said preparations for the internal party activities were already ongoing and would not be stopped by court actions.
According to him, the PDP will hold its state congresses on Saturday, followed by a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday.
“We will hold our state congresses on Saturday; our national convention is coming up on the 29th/30th. We are holding our NEC meeting by Wednesday,” Mohammed said.

He insisted that the PDP leadership is not concerned about the move, dismissing worries about the legal challenge allegedly being explored by a segment inside the party known as the Turaki-led group.
“They want to go to the Supreme Court; no problem,” he added.
Addressing reports of disagreements among PDP lawyers and party leaders in court during proceedings, Mohammed blasted people he accused of putting their own interests ahead of the law
“When certain people are guided by ego and not guided by principles of law, you are bound to have such kinds of rascality in an open court,” he said.
