Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is ramping up preparations for its crucial national convention on March 29 and 30, declaring “no victor and no vanquished” as it focuses on rebuilding and repositioning for future elections.

Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, made the emphatic statement on Monday during the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, calling the convention a pivotal moment.

“This convention is not merely a routine exercise; it is a critical milestone that will shape the future direction of our party,” he said.

Mohammed highlighted the PDP’s “significant progress in stabilising its structures and restoring confidence” after recent legal and political hurdles, crediting the party’s collective resolve and commitment to due process.

“The recent judicial pronouncements, approached with a spirit of reconciliation and inclusiveness, have further reinforced our commitment to unity. There is no victor and no vanquished only a shared commitment to rebuild, reposition, and strengthen our party,” he stated.

The caretaker chairman announced the successful completion of ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses across the country, noting they were largely peaceful and embodied the party’s democratic principles. He urged members to stay united and disciplined ahead of the convention, emphasizing that the PDP is “one indivisible family.”

“The eyes of the nation are upon us, and we must rise to the occasion with transparency, discipline and respect for our internal democratic processes,” Mohammed added.
He also praised the party’s national leader, Nyesom Wike, for his “doggedness, sacrifices and courage” in stabilizing the PDP.

In his address, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, described the NEC meeting as occurring at a “critical juncture requiring wisdom, restraint and a deep sense of responsibility.” He commended the leadership for the successful congresses and the ongoing electronic membership registration, a key reform for internal democracy.

“A credible membership register is the foundation of any serious political organisation. It enhances planning, transparency and builds confidence among members,” Ohuabunwa said.

On zoning, he called for leaders to embrace the zoning committee’s recommendations with equity and justice in mind. “No arrangement is perfect, but what is most important is our collective willingness to accommodate one another for the greater good of the party,” he stated.

National Assembly caucus leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, affirmed the PDP’s resilience, with Moro declaring the party “not dead” and urging support for leadership to build electoral strength. House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda echoed calls for selflessness and unity during this pre-convention phase.

PDP State Chairmen Forum Chairman Austine Nwachukwu pointed to renewed grassroots mobilization and membership growth via e-registration.

Following extensive deliberations on the party’s strength and electoral future, the NEC issued a communiqué signed by Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and Secretary Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu. It expressed profound satisfaction with the peaceful Ward, LGA, State, and Zonal Congresses, ratifying their reports and commending leaders, committees, stakeholders, and members for discipline and due process.

The NEC reviewed progress on electronic membership registration, reaffirming commitment to a credible, technology-driven database and urging nationwide participation. It affirmed the adopted zoning formula for national positions, rooted in equity, fairness, inclusiveness, and national balance, to guide the convention.

NEC also noted the commencement of nomination form sales for the convention, advising aspirants to adhere to guidelines and timelines. It directed organs to ensure a seamless, credible event themed “A Convention of inclusiveness, unity and renewal.”

Reiterating the party’s supremacy, NEC called for unity and discipline while expressing confidence in PDP’s renewed capacity to provide national leadership.
With unity, reconciliation, and discipline at the forefront, PDP leaders affirmed that the convention will reshape the party’s structure and direction.
