PCN inducts 318 UNN Pharm D graduates

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), yesterday inducted 318 Pharm D graduates of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) into the council.

Prof Chukuemeka Nworu, the Dean of the faculty presented the graduates of Pharm D to PCN for the induction during the ceremony.

Nworu said that February 26, 2026, would remain a historic and defining moment in the history of the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences UNN.

“Today is the first time the faculty is inducting Doctor of Pharmacy graduates as a first professional degree.

“Pharm D programme was approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which directed universities to migrate from the five-year Bachelor of Pharmacy to the six-year Doctor of Pharmacy programme.

“On behalf of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and by authority of the Senate of UNN, I hereby present Osefo Marycynthia C. and 317 other graduates of Pharm D to PCN for induction,” he said.

Pharm Ibrahim Ahmed, the Registrar of PCN in a remark before administering the Oath on the graduates, congratulated them for successful completion of their six-year course that earned them Doctor of Pharmacy.

The Registrar, who was represented by Pharm. Ifeyinwa G. Ohiaeri, the Director of PCN in the South East urged the inductees to ensure they maintain the high professional conduct of Pharmacy as prescribed by PCN.

“As you take this oath, I urge you all to maintain high professional conduct of the Pharmacy profession, Pharmacy is a noble profession and PCN frowns on any act of professional misconduct,” he said.

The Registrar disclosed that the inductees were expected to write the Registration exam after their one-year internship, adding that the exam will be held in March and October every year.

The PCN boss commended parents for investing in their children’s education and urged them to keep it up.

In a remark, Prof Simon Ortuanya, the Vice-chancellor of UNN congratulated the first set of Pharm D graduates and pledged that UNN would continue to provide the enabling environment for teaching and learning.

“The university is happy that today more than 300 graduates of Pharm D  graduates have been inducted by PCN, Management will continue to provide the support and enabling environment for teaching and learning to thrive,” he said.

The VC who was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics Prof Kamoru Usman commended the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for a job well done in preparing the first set of graduates of Pharm D of the faculty.

Ortuanya urged the inductees to be good ambassadors of UNN wherever they found themselves, as well as remember to give back to their alma mater in future.

Speaking Prof George Ugwu, the Commissioner of Health in Enugu State who was the Special Guest of Honour said Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State has been given health sector special attention, which according to him has resulted in significant improvement in primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions in the state since the governor assumed office.

Our correspondent reports that  Osefo Marycynthia was announced as the is the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 session in Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences UNN with 4.95 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
