The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Abia State said it has generated 1,783 cases out of which it resolved 1,293, with 490 cases pending.

The PCC Commissioner for Abia State, Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu, disclosed this in Umuahia when he briefed newsmen during activities marking the commission’s golden jubilee.

He said it was with dedication and perseverance that the commission (Nigerian Ombudsman) in the state successfully resolved the cases which he said could have congested courts the more if they had not handled them.

“These numbers represent more than just statistics; they represent lives touched, injustices redressed, and hope restored.

“Our proactive approach has also enabled us to identify and address systemic issues, such as scarcity of primary healthcare facilities and brought attention to the impact of poor road conditions on road users and advocated necessary infrastructure development.

“This is birthed from the visionary leadership of General Yakubu Gowon and General Murtala Mohammed, who in their wisdom, entrusted the esteemed Jerome Udoji to lead a commission that examined the structure and operations of the public service, laying the foundation for the establishment of the Public Complaints Commission in 1975 through Decree No. 31 of 1975, now cited as Cap. P37 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004; to this moment, we have remained steadfast in our mission to redress administrative injustices and champion social justice.

“Our mandate is not just about resolving complaints; it is about upholding the dignity of every Nigerian and fostering trust in our institutions. Importantly, our services are entirely free, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of socio-economic status, can access justice without financial burden.”

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of administration, Samuel Onoja, expressed joy over the cordial relationship between the police and PCC in Abia. He added that there is a robust synergy between the police and PCC in the state.
