Patronise local products to strengthen naira, Catholic priest advises

Polls: We are disappointed in INEC – Catholic Bishops

Rev. Fr. Joseph Agbazi, the Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Gold and Base, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State, has advised Nigerians to patronize local products in order to strengthen the naira.

Agbazi, who gave the advice in his sermon on Sunday in Jos, said that the rise in use of foreign goods was one of the major factors responsible for the constant fall in the value of the nation’s currency.

The priest also called on Nigerians to use the naira instead of dollars in carrying out transactions within the country.

”Nigerians  must let go of foreign products and buy local cars, clothes, shoes, building materials and other goods to grow our naira.

”We must also avoid the use of dollars or other foreign currency to do transactions within the country; let’s use the naira in all our dealings.

”That way, our local currency will appreciate and our economy will be better,”he said.

The priest also called on politicians to do away with greed and utilise the nation’s God-given resources to provide the desired development to Nigerians.

Agbazi  further called on the government to invest more in the education sector, insisting that such a move would improve the quality of lives in the nation.

“Our political class must push greed away and give way for development. Let us make our education sector better in order to attract foreign teachers and students into the country,” he advised.
