Pastor Korede Komaiya has sparked widespread discussion among young Nigerians after delivering a strong message on mentorship at The Master’s Place International Church, Warri.

The church auditorium was filled to capacity, with additional worshippers gathered in overflow sections. Video excerpts from the event have since gone viral, fuelling debate among Generation Z entrepreneurs and aspiring leaders.
In his address, Komaiya stressed that mentorship is essential for anyone seeking to build influence or succeed in business. He argued that leadership begins with learning and submission to guidance.

“If you must become a young leader, you must become a young learner,” he said, urging attendees to commit to training and personal development.

He criticised what he described as a tendency among young people to seek emotional validation rather than constructive criticism from mentors. According to him, genuine mentorship involves accountability and correction.

The cleric further warned against pride and self-sufficiency, stating that individuals who reject counsel risk stagnation. He added that he remains accountable to mentors himself, underscoring the importance of continuous learning.

Reactions to the sermon have been varied. Supporters praised the pastor’s call for discipline and humility, while others suggested that mentorship frameworks should evolve to reflect changing business realities.

Nevertheless, the packed venue and strong online engagement suggest that issues of mentorship, leadership and personal growth remain central concerns for Nigeria’s emerging generation of professionals.
