The Senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Abia Central District, Nkechi Nwaogu, has fired back at the All Progressives Congress (APC) over her party membership status.
The APC, Abia State chapter had, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru, alleged that Senator Nwaogu is still a member of APC contrary to NDC’s claim.
“For the sake of emphasis, Senator Nwaogu’s name is contained in the party’s register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 10, being the last day for the submission of party registers to INEC and there is also no record of her resignation from the All Progressives Congress”.
Going further, Aguoru said, “We are sufficiently aware that Mama APC, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, having served as a lawmaker, and an experienced one at, understands the legal implications of double registration.
We, therefore, have no reason to believe that she would consciously subject herself to such a situation.

“It is important to state, categorically, that all her registration details, including her membership card details, remain in our party’s database and in the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a member of the All Progressives Congress. Let us repeat, for the second time, that at no time did our cherished Mama APC resign her membership of the All Progressives Congress”.
However, firing back at APC, Senator Nwaogu said before dragging her, Abia APC should put its house in order.
In a statement, the Senator Nwaogu’s media team, while saying it was not true that their principal is still a member of the APC, advised Aguoru to be more concerned about the situation within his own party, than Senator Nwaogu.
“Before the APC begins dragging Senator Nwaogu, perhaps, it should first address the conduct of some of its candidates who have publicly distanced themselves from the party’s governorship candidate and endorsed another candidate.
“That raises a simple question: who is really facing a crisis of party cohesion? But let us make one thing clear: Senator Nwaogu has left the APC, and she is not returning. She has chosen the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she is respected, accepted, and actively participating in the political process”, the statement added.
The media team said Senator Nwaogu has moved on, stressing that the NDC is her political home, and she remains focused on Abia Central and the people she seeks to represent.
