Party chair: Lagos PDP, groups endorse Bode George, Gbenga Daniel

AHEAD of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) national convention fixed for next month, to pick new set of national of­ficers, the Lagos State chapter of the party and two different groups have endorsed the candidatures of former deputy national chairman of the par­ty, Chief Olabode George and former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for the position of National chairman.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos yes­terday, the state PDP chairman, Moshood Sal­vador said the Lagos PDP endorsed George because “he’s the best man to lead the party at this material time.”

He said the former PDP deputy national chairman has the experience, matu­rity and all that is required to move the party forward, stating that the party can­not afford to experiment this time.

Salvador appealed to state chapters of the party in the South-West and the other five geo-political zones to support George as the next national chair­man of the PDP.

Earlier, a political pres­sure group, South-West Democratic Youth Van­guard, had endorsed George for the position. Speaking at a press confer­ence in Lagos, coordina­tor of the group, Mr Salau Kola said the party needs a man like George at this particular time, noting that the PDP leader has all the attributes needed to steer the affairs of the party.

“We believe that Chief Olabode George can take the party to the height it should be; he has the cred­ibility, the temperament, discipline and network across the ethnic divides of our nation.”

He said although the national chairmanship po­sition has been zoned to south, the slot should be ceded to the South-West in the spirit of fair play.

“We believe that only fairness and collective in­terest can return the party to its days of lost glory, and this should begin with the South-West producing the next national chairman of the party,” Kola said.

Another group, New Era, at press conference in Abuja yesterday, appealed to Daniel to join the race for the position of national chairman.
